July Author Round-Up
It's hard to believe that July is almost over and August will be here in just a few short days. We've had an eventful month here at Vegan Heritage Press. VHP authors Robin Robertson, Betsy DiJulio and Bryanna Clark Grogan were named in Holistic Nutrition Degree's 101 Leading Sites for Healthy Vegan Living. Our authors have been busy with quite a lot of other things as well. Here's what they've been up to:
Robin Robertson shared her recipe for Peach-Almond Butter Quesadillas from Nut Butter Universe in the July issue of Vegan Culinary Experience. The Marin Independent Journal said "even non-vegans would go nuts over Nut Butter Universe" and shares a few recipes from the book as well.
Practically Raw Desserts author Amber Shea Crawley shared her recipe for Tuxedo Cheesecake Brownies in Vegan Culinary Experience.
The Blooming Platter Cookbook author Betsy DuJulio has had a busy month! Her Vegan Gumbo recipe was featured on Navitas Naturals website and her recipe for Indian Cashew Swiss Chard, Kale or Spinach was featured on One Green Planet. Betsy's recipe for Lemon Verbena Shortbread Sandwich Cookies was also featured on One Green Planet, and it used fellow VHP author Bryanna Clark Grogan's Vegan Lemon Curd recipe as filling. Ms. Fit Magazine featured Betsy's recipe for Zucchini, Onion, and Yellow Squash Gratin in their article “Friday Favorite: Five Favorite Early Summer Veggies" a few weeks ago too.

June VHP Author Round-Up
Another month is coming to an end, and, as usual, our authors have been busy. Here’s a recap of what they’ve been up to:
The Blooming Platter Cookbook author Betsy DiJulio was featured on Nasoya’s webite for her decadent Vegan Chocolate Nayo Cake. Betsy was also featured on Tofutti’s website for her creamy Vegan Caramelized Double Onion, Fresh Kale and White Bean Dip.
Amber Shea Crawley, author of Practically Raw and Practically Raw Desserts, shared some practical tips on how to stick to a vegetarian or vegan diet while eating out – even if plant-based dishes aren’t on the menu on LifeHacker.com. Amber believes that vegetarians and vegans should never have to relegate themselves to ordering a meager salad when dining out, and we couldn't agree more!
Robin Robertson, author of the recently released Nut Butter Universe, has had a busy month! In addition to sharing her recipe for tasty Hawaiian Pineapple Tofu with the VegNews Recipe Club, Robin's Sriracha-Spiked Hummus from Nut Butter Universe was featured in Kathy Freston’s Daily Lean, her Szechuan Stir-Fry from Nut Butter Universe was featured on Oakland Veg's Meatout Monday and her recipe for Banh Mi Fajitas was featured on the Nasoya website.
Vegan Heritage Press founder and author of Vegan Unplugged Jon Robertson welcomed Vegan Publishers to world of, well, vegan publishing with a guest post on their blog.
If you’re looking for more pictures of decadent and delicious food, you can now find us on Food Gawker and Finding Vegan.

Health Benefits of Nuts
Are you nuts for nuts? Then you're in luck! Nuts have many nutritional benefits, making them a great addition to a healthy diet. If you're worried about gaining weight from the fat content in nuts, a new report published last week by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition will help ease your mind. The report reviews 31 different studies and found that people can add nuts into their diets without gaining weight. In fact, the study shows that people who added nuts to their diets and people who replaced other foods with nuts lost an average 1.4 pounds more than those who didn't eat any nuts at all. The nut-eaters studied also reduced their waist sizes by more than half an inch.
Nuts - and of course nut butters - contain protein, calcium,
potassium, essential fatty acids, fiber, and phytosterols. They are
also rich in vitamins E, B6, folate, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin,
pantothenic acid, selenium, iron, zinc, and magnesium. Studies have shown that heath benefits from nuts include stress reduction, protection against certain cancers, a lower risk of health disease and improved brain health. A lower risk of diabetes and high blood pressure has also been seen in people who added nuts to their diets. The fiber, protein and unsaturated fats in nuts has also been known to suppress hunger.
What a great incentive for cooking from Robin Robertson's newest book Nut Butter Universe! Just a small amount of nut butter can add great texture and flavor to your meals, and Robin has you covered with recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert and even snacks. Here are just a few of Robin's mouth-watering recipes, all enriched by delicious nut and seed butters: Artichoke Walnut Butter Bisque, Roasted Tahini Cauliflower, Roasted Niçoise Salad with Cashew Goddess Dressing, Grilled Vegetables with Almond Romesco Sauce, Penne Primavera with Avocado Cashew Cream, Ginger-Walnut Scones, Chocolate Macadamia Truffles, and many more.
Nut Butter Universe is available from Amazon, Barnes and Noble and your local independent bookstore.

Where Can You Buy World Vegan Feast?
Vegan Heritage Press is happy to announce that Bryanna Clark Grogan’s new book, World Vegan Feast, is officially in print! It literally rolled off the presses this week. So, where can you find it?Since the ink was barely dry just one week ago, it’s little short of a miracle, owing to our alert marketing department, that the book was already available on Amazon.com this Friday. The actual publication date is September, but there are already four places in the U.S. to buy the book: Amazon.com, Barnes&Noble.com, and books were just shipped to Vegan Essentials and Herbivore. (Both Vegan Essentials and Herbivore ship to Canada.)
Snail-paced distribution channels are why publishers put the pub date out ahead of availability. As Amazon.ca and Amazon.co.uk’s slow wheels discover that the book is available on U.S. Amazon, they, too, will pick it up in the near future. I anticipate this within the next two weeks. For U.K. readers, the book will also be available via TheBookDepository.com in the next few weeks. The book is not yet available at Chapters-Indigo stores, but it is in the works.
Soon, you will also be able to buy books directly from the publisher. But in the meantime, you can have your local bookstore order the book for you through our distributor: Baker & Taylor Books. Baker & Taylor has it in their system and are happy to ship anytime.

The Blooming Platter Cookbook
I’m delighted to announce the publication of our latest title: Betsy DiJulio ’s The Blooming Platter Cookbook: A Harvest of Seasonal Vegan Recipes. It’s the book that helps guide your cooking with creative recipes using fresh ingredients throughout the four seasons of the year.
Just in time for all the great Spring produce, The Blooming Platter Cookbook is rooted in regional American favorites and global cuisines, but the recipes celebrate the essential tastes, textures, and beauty that only fresh vegetables, fruits, and herbs can bring to the table. You can find the book on Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com or you can order it through your local independent bookstore.
The Blooming Platter Cookbook has something for everyone, as the recipes range from simple to decadent and from casual to elegant. Each recipe exalts at least one fresh seasonal ingredient: the crisp tart apples of fall; tender young asparagus of spring; dynamic leafy greens of winter; and the plump juicy berries of summer.
A creative artist, vegan blogger, and freelance writer, Betsy DiJulio wrote “The Veggie Table” column for Norfolk , VA ’s Virginian-Pilot newspaper. You can visit Betsy’s blog at TheBloomingPlatter.com.
The book has 8 pages of full-color photographs, food-related quotes, and menus to save time in meal planning. For more information about The Blooming Platter Cookbook, visit Vegan Heritage Press. Click here to read the press release.

Welcome to the Vegan Heritage Press blog
Since I published my own book Vegan Unplugged in August 2010, I’ve been posting articles, news, recipes, and giveaways on my Vegan Unplugged blog. However, as Vegan Heritage Press continues to grow, I decided it was time to give my company a blog all its own, and here it is!
VHP has lots of news to share, beyond my own book, including news about its current and upcoming authors and titles for 2011 and beyond. I’ll continue to post articles and recipes for Vegan Unplugged here as well, but I’ll also be able to include news on new titles, authors, recipes, and do some cookbook giveaways, too. I hope you’ll subscribe to this new blog.
Vegan Heritage Press is a company founded and operated by vegans that publishes cookbooks for vegans and the growing number of people who are choosing healthier, environmentally friendly, and more compassionate options in how they eat. I hope you enjoy this blog. I look forward to sharing lots of interesting things in the weeks and months ahead.
